Latency also depends on the server you’re playing on. I would start by going to a different server, also stop all Peer-2-Peer file sharing programs if you are running any, they take up a lot of bandwidth if you don’t configure them correctly.

Maybe there is something running that you don’t know about in background.

    Check Processes in Task Manager.

    Do you run virus protection?
    Do you run spyware protection?
Is something being scheduled to run during play you don’t know about?

    There could be many reasons.

Need more information in order to offer better suggestions.

Best Wishes and have fun but be careful.

    1. get off of wireless if you are, try to get a cable hooked directly to your router.
    2. in fact, if you have a router, it may be a good idea for intense gaming sessions to by pass it - make sure you still have a firewall on, though.
    3. If you do keep the router, anyone else downloading or playing online will reduce your bandwith
    4. In fact, depending on your area - DSL or Cable may be better. If everyone in your neighborhood has cable internet, you may have a better speed with DSL. If no one is using cable, then use cable. Cable is almost always better, however.
    5. Make sure you are using the latest drivers for your NIC and the newest firmware for your router and DSL modem
    6. do a search in counterstrike, etc, by ping - and then by population. The servers and the amount of users on the server are the highest reasons for latency.
